What are the different types of meetings facilitated by RxTro?

When setting up your meetings in RxTro you have the option to select from the following meeting topics: Journal club, Grand Round, Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting (MDTM), Drop, Hospital In-service and Specialist-led education(CPD).

Journal Club

A medical journal club is an educational forum or organised gathering within a medical or healthcare setting where professionals, such as doctors, nurses, medical students, and researchers, come together regularly to critically review and discuss selected articles from reputable medical journals.

The primary purpose of a medical journal club is to facilitate evidence-based learning, keep healthcare practitioners updated with the latest advancements in medicine, and encourage the application of research findings to clinical practice.

Typically, a facilitator, who is frequently a senior clinician or researcher, chooses pertinent and recent articles for discussion in a medical journal club. Participants are encouraged to read the chosen articles beforehand to actively engage in the discussions. During the journal club meeting, attendees present and analyse the articles, evaluate the study methodologies, scrutinise the data, and assess the quality of evidence presented.

Grand Round

A grand round is a formal gathering in medical settings where physicians meet to discuss the clinical cases of one or more patients.

A grand round is an integral component of medical education, particularly in teaching hospitals, where a comprehensive review of a patient's condition, treatment, and encountered challenges is presented to faculty members, medical students, and healthcare professionals.

The presentation may include detailed patient history, physical examination findings, relevant investigations, diagnostic dilemmas, treatment strategies, and the overall management plan. The presenter may also incorporate relevant medical literature, evidence-based guidelines, and the latest research to support their clinical decisions.

Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting (MDT)

Multidisciplinary team Meetings are comprised of at least one patient and multiple health professionals from several different disciplines. Health professionals who participate in a multidisciplinary team meeting collaborate and communicate together in order to address as many aspects of a patient's care as possible.

Multidisciplinary meetings that involve a diverse group of health professionals from various disciplines working collaboratively to provide comprehensive and integrated care to a patient. This team consists of at least one patient, alongside physicians, nurses, specialists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare experts, who collectively contribute their unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives.

In a multidisciplinary team meeting, each member actively communicates and collaborates, pooling their expertise to address all aspects of a patient's health and well-being. This includes medical conditions, psychological and social factors, lifestyle considerations, and any other relevant aspects that may impact the patient's health outcomes.

Pharma Rep - GP appointments

A drug rep from a pharmaceutical company can either drop-in to meet the GPs at the primary care clinics or book a GP appointment through RxTro.

A drop-in representative meeting in a hospital or GP setting refers to an informal, ad-hoc meeting between medical staff and a representative from an external company or organisation.
These meetings are often unscheduled and allow the representative to visit the medical premises and engage with healthcare professionals, administrators, or relevant personnel.

A pre-scheduled GP appointment is one where the drug rep from an external organisation, such as a pharmaceutical company books an appointment on the slots provided by the primary care clinic. The slots are usually set by the doctors in the primary care clinics or the practice managers or admin staff managing the doctor schedules.

The primary purpose of such meetings is to discuss a new product or drug or a procedure and usually preset with an email detailing the topics to be discussed in the meetings. Sometimes, the doctors can ask for such meetings requesting for drug samples from the representatives, and an email request is sent to all reps in the organisation.

Hospital In-service

A hospital in-service is a structured training session or educational program conducted within a hospital or healthcare facility. It is designed to provide specific knowledge and skills to the hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.

The primary purpose of a hospital in-service is to enhance the competence and proficiency of the hospital staff in various areas related to patient care, safety, and hospital protocols. These in-services cover a wide range of topics, including new medical technologies, updated treatment guidelines, infection control measures, emergency response procedures, and patient communication skills.

During a hospital in-service, experienced instructors or subject matter experts deliver presentations and interactive sessions to educate the staff on the latest advancements in medical practices, evidence-based guidelines, and best practices in patient care. They may use case studies, practical demonstrations, and hands-on training to ensure that the staff can apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills effectively in their day-to-day work.

In addition to the educational aspect, hospital in-services also serve as a platform for networking and building professional relationships. They allow the staff to interact with colleagues from different departments, exchange ideas, and learn from each other's experiences. This collaboration can lead to improved coordination of care, enhanced patient outcomes, and a more cohesive and efficient healthcare team.

Hospital in-services play a vital role in keeping the hospital staff updated with the latest knowledge and skills required to provide high-quality patient care. By investing in continuous education and training, hospitals can ensure that their staff remains competent, confident, and capable of delivering optimal healthcare services to their patients.

Specialist-led Education (SLE):

This is one of the new additions to the list. The specialist-led education is where a specialist visits primary care clinics to deliver their Continuous professional development (CPD) activity. The choice of the specialists visiting the GP clinics depends upon personal interest, and the CPD goals of the GPs.

The aim of SLE is to provide a simpler way to gain CPD points by booking SLE meetings with specialists on RxTro.
